1st Phase: Development of the model: Principles
-These centers are going to function as nursery schools for the Roma children of pre-school age.
- They are going to work during the day under the supervision of a teacher-intercultural intermediator whose role will be
to develop creative activities together with the Roma children and prepare them in order to go to school in the next year.
- This preparation could take the form of activities (games, discussions, theatrical plays etc.) that will teach the
children: how to behave at school, why is good going to school, what will be different from the way they have been used to,
which rules will they have to obey, which benefits are they going to have etc.
- These pre-school centers are going to be established in areas near the Roma communities (in order the Roma children to
have easy access to them) and they are going also to offer breakfast to the children in order to give them strength to cope
with the activities of the center.
- The activities are going to be based on a series of best practices already developed.
- Organisation of a workshop in all partner countries with representatives of Roma communities and pedagogical experts (the
presence of both groups is compulsory)
-Draft of a model (working hours, number of children, activities proposed, equipment needed etc.)
-Feedback from partners
-Final Model
-Deadline: 30/5/2012
2nd Phase: Organisation of the pre-school centers
3rd Phase: Training
Identification of material that has already been produced and is adequate to fit the needs of the training (all languages
+ English)
- Adaptation of the material in an e-learning format
-Selection of a trainer in each country that is going to train the two intercultural intermediators (one Roma and one non-
Roma)
Characteristics of the trainer:
-Great experience in the intercultural education especially concerning the issue of the Roma children
- Experience in the organization and implementation of training actions
- Proven experience in the field of the training of children of pre-school age
- The trainers selected in each country are going to participate in a transnational workshop which is going to be organized
in Bologna in the framework of the second project meeting
-In this workshop, the trainers from the different partner countries will be able to exchange opinions and expertise and
therefore develop their knowledge and get new ideas from the experience of the partner countries.
-Organisation of workshop (complemented by e-learning courses) for the training of the two intecultural intermediators (by
the trainers)
4th Phase: Piloting
MONITORING OF THE PILOTING
- On the basis of specific quantitative and qualitative criteria: the number of children attending, the number of children
that continue to attend at the end of the piloting, the satisfaction of the children, the opinion of the tutors
-Each time that a problem appears the intercultural intermediators should contact the partners
- Evaluation of things that have worked and things that have not worked.
5th Phase: Sustainability
- Promotion of the model to interested organisations and countries all over the world.
